Meet Kalyani Shrivastava from Jhansi – This wonder girl has invented a desi AC

HerStory

While we comfort ourselves sitting in an air-conditioned room away from the scorching heat, there are people who are deprived of this luxury and are working all day and night to run their families. For them, Kalyani made a groundbreaking invention, the most affordable AC around the world – ‘Desi A.C.’, costing just Rs.1800.

Kalyani Shrivastava is a brilliant 16-year-old girl from Jhansi. She is only studying in 12th standard at Lokmanya Tilak Inter College in Jhansi. Her father named Dinesh Shrivastava is a teacher in the Department of Basic Education and her mother, Divya Shrivastava also works as a teacher.

Now, let’s find out how this Desi A.C. works causing no pollution to the environment.

HerStory

The air conditioner built by Kalyani has an ice box made of thermocol where air is released from a 12 volt DC fan. Cool air is then released from the elbow, which results in a drop in temperature by 4-5 degrees if the AC is used for an hour.

This AC has been constructed in such a way that it causes no pollution. It eliminates the emission of CFCs into the already depleting ozone layer, hence it is eco-friendly. It works on the principle of solar energy and as a result, there is no electricity consumption.

Kalyani’s invention is now one of the most-talked subjects across the nation. Her AC has been selected by Indian Institute of Delhi (IIT-D) for the National Level Model Competition. Last year, she was appreciated as part of the commencement ‘Naari Samman’ launched by the Uttar Pradesh government in collaboration with Hindi newspaper Amar Ujala.

By inventing this Desi AC, Kalyani not only impressed Indians but foreigners too. She also received an invitation from the government of Japan for a seminar.

Along with outshining at science, she is also a really good singer. She has participated in the television reality show Indian Idol, reaching the third round. She has won more than 50 prizes in competitions held in Lucknow, Agra, and Kanpur.

Kalyani’s low-cost and effective AC comes as a huge relief to the ones who come from economically backward sections of society. She has proved that India has no scarcity of unique and extraordinary brilliance and portrayed a positive image of India in the Global front.
